Common use

Zithromax is an antibiotic belonging to a semi-synthetic macrolide related to erythromycin. This antibiotic fights against various species of gram positive and gram negative bacteria such as genus Staphylococcus; S. aureus, S. pneumoiane, S. pyogenes, S. agalactiae, Haemophilus influenzae and parainfluenzae, Moraxela catarrhalis, Bacteroides fragilis, Escherichia coli, Bordetella ssp., Borrelia burgdorferi, Haemophilus ducreui, Nisseria gonorrhoeae Ø Chlamidia trachomati. It becomes active in vitro agaianst the following bacteria Legionella pneumophila, Mycoplasma pneumoiae hominis, Helicobacter pylori, Toxoplasma gondii, Ureaplasma urealiticum. As a Macrolide antibiotic Zithromax suppresses bacterial protein developing preventing bacteria growth and multiproduction. This antibiotic is prescribed to the treatment of the upper and low respiratory organs’ infections like tonsillitis, otitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, urogenital infections like urethritis, prostatitis, cervicitis, adnexitis caused by chlamydia, gonorrhea, early syphilis, gastrointestinal infections, ulcer of stomach and duodenum.

Dosage and directions

Zithromax is intended for the application as prescribed by the doctor. Even if you feel better it is not recommended to stop taking the antibiotic because the symptoms may reappear. Every pill should be washed down with a full glass of water. If you need to prepare the solution it is necessary to combine one pack with 2 ounces of water, melt it and drink at once. The shelf life of the prepared solution is 12 hours. Pills and solution can be taken on an empty or full stomach. Zithromax capsules should be applied only on an empty stomach 2 hours before or after a meal.

Precautions

Clinical trials do not confirm the fact of the influence on the newborn children or the possibility to penetrate into the breast milk. Zithromax can be prescribed by a doctor for an application during pregnancy in the case the possible damages to the baby don’t weight the possible benefits.

Contraindications

The main contraindication is the hypersensitivity to the drug components.

Possible side effect

Among possible side effects, there are diarrhea or liquid stool, nausea, pain in the abdomen, vomiting, uncontrolled heartbeats, decrease in appetite, urine of a dark color, clay-colored stools, jaundice, fever, rash, red skin, headache. If any of the side effects appear it is necessary to visit your doctor to specify the cause and possible solution to this problem.

Drug interaction

Zithromax is not combinable with aluminum- or magnesium- based antacids because they reduce the time of Zithromax absorption in the intestinal cavity.

Missed dose

If you skip a dose it is necessary to take it as fast as possible. If you realize the missing when the next pill should be taken, skip it and continue the drugs’ application.

Overdose

If you have some of these symptoms nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort the overdose is possible. Seek for medical help immediately.

Storage

A room temperature between 59-77 F (15-25 C) is required to keep the medication especially out of light and moisture, kids and pets. The solution should not be kept for more than 10 hours
